Post Liberty Tri

Ok, I will be posting a full race review, but this is the short version of my experience at the Liberty Tri Half-Ironman.

  • Swim went ok, could have used more buoys, but I think I did like a 31 without the run up to the parking lot.
  • Bike: I felt like I was flying through the first loop (having aaron’s disc was sweet0, and thought that I’d get an under 2:40 for that…agh but then the 2nd loop came and the wind had picked up even more. It was tough and unrelenting. I think I made the mistake of riding the 1st like I was doing oly, not half.
  • Run: as chelle would say, I “did not look good” at T2. I even went out too fast, but I quickly had to throttle back and saw lots of 8:10, 8:30, etc mile splits. The Bake Park is just constantly changes grades, up and down…
  • Overall: 4th in my age-group, not bad. I hope that endurance will come in time.

Good job to Doug, Tim, Marta (1st half-im ever!), Dave, Gregger (1st tri ever), Aaron (4th in his Oly AG), and Merrie, which is hereto now declared “queen of the day.” Merrie not only completed her first Olympic tri ever, but she won the 30-34 yr. old Age Group. Merrie rocks!

And of course, as always, I could have never done this race without the support and help of chelle who was a true trooper in being at the park from 6 a.m. till 3 p.m.!
