Ok I know there are thousands of them out there, but I will add my own rant:

Active.com is a good idea, not great, not revolutionary, but pretty decent. Sign up for a bunch of different races thru one streamlined site. However, the “handling fee” that they charge is out of control.

This is what this afternoon’s registration cost me:

• Team Ortho Monster Dash Half Marathon = 55$ to team ortho, $4.56 to active. 4.56/55 = 8.3%
• Team Ortho Monster Dash 5k = $35 to team ortho, $3.28 to active. 3.28/35 = 9.4%

Close to 10% to register?? Huhh?? What?? I mean being the sportsworld ticketmaster is nothing to aspire to….

If a race allows mail forms I usually use those, save the extra $, and just mail it in super early to make sure I get added to the registrant list. I usually follow up with an email if I don’t see my check cashed (plus bring a photocopy proof of the cash being checked from online banking) to the race.
