Active.com rant

Ok I know there are thousands of them out there, but I will add my own rant:

Active.com is a good idea, not great, not revolutionary, but pretty decent. Sign up for a bunch of different races thru one streamlined site. However, the “handling fee” that they charge is out of control.

This is what this afternoon’s registration cost me:

Close to 10% to register?? Huhh?? What?? I mean being the sportsworld ticketmaster is nothing to aspire to….

If a race allows mail forms I usually use those, save the extra $, and just mail it in super early to make sure I get added to the registrant list. I usually follow up with an email if I don’t see my check cashed (plus bring a photocopy proof of the cash being checked from online banking) to the race.

I just registered for a turkey trot being held in the next town over from me – put on by the local Fire Dept. The entry was $20 and the fee was $3. Fifteen percent! I should have just taken 10 minutes to drive to the station and pick up a form.

My daughter just got ripped off for registering for an event and Active. Had to call the race director to make adjustment.
